Mike Control is a hip-hop group out of Brooklyn, NY. Jonny Bro, The Grey Ghost and DJ Shaffer. The Three life long friends make up the foundation. Their rise from New York’s underground has introduced a potent and versatile musical stance to the hip-hop world. Following the success of their first independent release, a 12” single (“Mics I Grab” b/w “Rhyme for Rhyme”) which was a hit in DJ pools around the country, receiving airplay on college radio throughout the United States, The Introduction EP was dropped. A seven song lyrical assault that displayed the group’s focus and range. Influences stemming from of old school hip-hop to hardcore, Mike Control blends a powerful assemble of sounds that not many MC’s can compare too.
One of the group’s true strengths rest in the energetic live shows, performing at many New York City showcases, Mike Control has ventured into Television, blessing the stage on the Mother Ship Connection (a cable TV show featuring the best independent artists in the tri-boro area), and many Music Festivals throughout the country and aboard. The North by North East 2001 festival in Toronto, Monsters of Rhyme 2001 in Seattle, Independent Music Festival in Hoboken, New Jersey, The LMF in Long Island, New York and at this years CMJ Music Marathon and The Nashville Music Conference.
Mike Control’s product has received orders and sold out through distributors such as Land Speed and Buds. Strong reviews from well know publications such as Strength Magazine, Independent and online publications (see enclosed reviews) have kept Mike Control moving forward. The trio’s song “Mics I Grab” was voted best in the Music Dish Band Wars competition against 8 other independent bands. The victory enabled Mike Control to receive lucrative prizes such as promotion to 100 college radio stations, 100 retail stores, and 50 press reviews, plus one year of level one distribution through Electric Kingdom. The Brooklyn outfit is also about to drop a new 12” vinyl (The Naturals” b/w “Brooklyn ill Spitters” due out in November 2001.
