Jon Fields was born a product of the
70's in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he currently lives and creates his
artwork. As far back as he can remember, Jon has had some form of art utensil
in his hand. He has had no formal training, relying on a trial and error
method and lots of experimentation.
Jon grew up on a steady regimen of high fructose junk food, unstable sleeping
patterns, Saturday morning cartoons, and comic books. Raised by a working,
middle class family in the North side suburbs, he discovered early-on that
the corporate world was not for him. After trying unsuccessfully at many
career paths, fate always seemed to steer him back to the art world.
His first venture into commissioned work was drawing portraits of families
and their pets. The mundane job of being a human Xerox machine quickly
became boring. Drawing on his inspirations and influences from artists like
Ralph Steadman (Hunter S. Thompson illustrations) and Sam Keith (The Maxx),
his work evolved into the splattered, chaotic style that appears on this
site. He soon developed a recognizable style of his own, using watercolors
in a way that gives some enthusiasts of his work a new outlook on the
medium. Personal tragedy and emotions that we all deal with on a daily basis
have become a bottomless well for the subject matter of his current work.
